Things I Splurge On
First and foremost, I can and do find all these things second hand all the time. BUT if you’re looking for something specific and need it in a timely manner, meaning you don’t have time to thrift around and wait to find exactly what you want, then I would suggest splurging on these items.
Secondly, I think these are all long lasting items that I personally use A LOT. So there’s my back story on that. Now let’s get to the list.
1. Jeans - SO many criteria when it comes to jeans that are different for everyone.
a. Are you looking for a specific fit? Fitted in the hips/thighs? High rise? Mid Rise?
b. What about a specific wash? That super dark denim? Or a bold blue that feels like you just walked off the set of Charlie’s Angels in 1977?
c. How about the leg opening? Do you want flares, skinnies, boot- cut, wide leg ankle?
As you can see there are so many options with denim that can create an assortment of options. So when you’re getting real specific and you’re in a time crunch, you go shop new and invest because that pair of jeans that hit all the criteria, and fit you like a glove, are absolute money. 🤑
2. Shoes - I’d even be more specific and say boots!
A sturdy pair of boots can last you so long. Usually you can buy some boots and keep them for years and years. So I find this a worthy investment.
I’ll also add formal shoes here. The kind you wear to really fancy events, weddings etc. Because you don’t wear them too often, but usually you’re in them for a while, when you do wear them. And it’s always for a special event. Definitely worth buying a great pair that you’ll enjoy wearing all night long, until the next event.
3. Staple Coats - Coats can last so long! So while coats are on my list of things to easily thrift. I also can see where you might want a staple black or tan coat and you don’t need it to be epic and from the 70’s. I mean, I don’t really get it, hahah, but I do.
You just want something simple to wear everyday, to work, etc. and not have to worry about it.
So I don’t mind spending a little more money on them if I’m looking for something versatile and simple.
AND when you’re wearing a coat it’s the main piece of your outfit. Meaning it’s the first thing people see. It’s often covering up a lot of what’s underneath. So wouldn’t you rather have it be amazing?
